TurnKey Linux Virtual Appliance Library

How do you set up multiple sites on one Turnkey Joomla bare metal install?

afaik, there is no documentation on configuring Turnkey Joomla for multiple sites on a bare metal install. Has anyone done this? Is there documentation I'm missing.

I'm thinking about installing a separate Joomla 1.5 package in a subdirectory of /usr/share/joomla15. However, I'm fearful of destroying an existing dev site (the default install site) a colleague is using by adding a second site to MySQL.

More specifically, I am fearful a fresh install of Joomla 1.5 will overwrite the first default MySQL database with a new default database (var $db = 'jos_db';).

Same question

I am as well wondering what steps I could take to host multiple sites on the one VM with this package.

Yours may be a different

Yours may be a different question. I am concerned with multiple sites on a bare metal install. You may be asking about multiple instances of TKL/Joomla on a VM.

Multiple instances in a virtual environment should be easy

Just a case of adding a new TKL Joomla VM!

As for multiple sites in a single install (either bare metal or VM) I have no idea. But Tom, I'd be inclined to test in a virtual environment before trying on your bare metal install. That way if you destroy it, you can just wipe and try again. Also it makes it much easier to document the steps you take. I'm sure others would love to hear your progress.

TKL Joomla Multiple sites on VM

Yeah I figured mine out.

For the joomla that came installed it gets put at /usr/share/joomla15

You can simply make a new folder /usr/share/joomla.new and create a new virtual host in apache with webmin. Then use PHPmyadmin and create a new user and do the option to create a new database with this user. Download the joomla .zip upload to /usr/share/joomla.new, then extract and go to mynewdomain.com Then follow a normal Joomla web install.

The only problem with this I found is that it is best to delete the original joomla15 in apache as it is originally setup to use servername "default", and if you do multiple sites you cant have a default, they all need to be separate specific domains.

I hope this helps someone that was wondering about my issue.
FYI - I am extremely green on this stuff, all new to me

hmm..

im a little confused..

i think this relates to me...

i already have a primary site with joomla installed via webbased with a template i.e. xyz.com NOW.. i have purchased a deluxe plan, i would like to also use joomla on the new website xxx.com with new content and template.. soo..

can i do a new webbased install of joomla and the template in one zipped folder to the new folder of xxx.com? will this work? will it cause issues?
