Wordpress Behind a Proxy

I'm using the Wordpress Turnkey Virtual Appliance behind my work's http proxy. I've followed the instructions here http://www.turnkeylinux.org/forum/support/20100112/manual-proxy-configur... and now the Ubuntu server can see the internet.

However when looking at Wordpress's dashboard, it cannot access the internet and so plugins etc cannot be automatically updated.

Anyone know how to fix this?

From WP 2.8 it is possible to set up the proxy via wp-config.php, have a look at this post: http://wpengineer.com/wordpress-proxysupport/
