Hi, i'm testing a PDC  with samba 4 , but I have a lot of problem.

On a virtual machine i'd installed a PDC machine with this configuration:

Host dc1

Domain name prova.lan

Ip 192.168.1.254

gw 192.168.1.1

dns 192.168.1.1

dns 8.8.8.8

I have a win7 pro with this conf

ip 192.168.1.253

gw 192.168.1.1

dns 192.168.254 ==> PDC

dns 192.168.1.1

From win7 i can't ping dc1 or domain prova.lan, but ping 192.168.1.254 it's ok.

from pdc console i can't ping dc1 or domain prova.lan

The join to domain not works.

The problem it's about the DNS service, i suppose.

Can anyone help me to resolve tihs problem?

Thank you!

Regards

I'm not sure if that is the issue, but AFAIK on Win AD setup you should never allow members (other than DCs) to have secondary DNS (other than DNS provided by a DC). If you want to make your network more reliable, then add additional DCs that mirror the original one. Otherwise there is risk that on occasion it will get DNS from elsewhere (e.g. from 192.168.1.1).

Try adjusting that and see how you go. If you are still having issues, please post back and I will do my best to help you out.

Also as an FYI, technically an AD configured Samba 4 DC is not a PDC! In AD all DCs are equal; only NT/Samba3 style domains have a single primary domain controller.
