Changing the DNS hostname for an active launched server in AWS/EC2?

If you have an elastic IP, then you will need to adjust the DNS settings with whoever provides your domain.

If you have your domain handled through Amazon's Route53 and use Hub DNS to take care of the domain to IP mapping then you might want to have a look here: /docs/hubdns/usage

But a few thoughts...

Possibly one way to go would be to run a TKLBAM backup of your server and launch a new one with the desired name and restore your TKLBAM backup to the new server. Depending on how your DNS is configured it may take a little mucking around...

Hostname is actually set within the machine itself so I'd assume that the Hub is picking it up from there. But whether it would change if you chanced the hostname or not I couldn't say...?

And where it says at the top the domain name... I think that is controlled by Hub DNS so I suspect you'd need to change the Hub DNS settings (if that is where it's configured in your setup).

Bottom line is that if it works as you'd expect once you have made whatever config changes you need to make, then I wouldn't worry about it...

Thanks Jeremy.  I probably didn't explain my issue correctly.

On the TKL Hub dashboard where it list the Status, Uptime, EC2 Instance, Hostname, etc.

On that page it says "Hostname: www.domain.com".  That domain name is also listed on the top where it says "Medium Wordpress  Oregon (West USA)  www.domain.com".

I was curious how I could change that listed domain name from that dashboard page?  Or if it doesn't matter as long as my DNS is pointing to the correct IP?

Actually, when I manually associated the Elastic IP to my EC2 instance directly from the AWS console it reset everything reflecting only the Elastic IP associated, which is what my domain is now pointing to and everything works great.  So I think I'm understanding how all of this is working in regards to DNS.
