Proxmox VM (not container) format?

I'm attempting a VM on Proxmox (not a container). What VM format to use?

ISO isn't working since there's no opportunity (console doesn't connect) to set the root password as there is for a Proxmox container.

I must admit that i usually use Firefox for Proxmox admin (and Chrome normally). It's not such an issue now, but for a long time, they had a java console client that didn't work at all in Chrome...
