Hello, all :-)

My first attempt to use the Turnkey Linux Active Directory Domain Controller Appliance had been a great success until an automatically-installed update moved me to Samba 4.2.x from 4.17.

They main change that seems to cause trouble is that per https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.2.0.html

Winbindd is now used on the Samba AD DC by default

Lots of people have stumbled over this and had their SAMBA servers come crashing arount their ears from what I can see in Google searches.

What seemed to work for me was the following apt-get:

apt-get install winbind samba libnss-winbind libpam-winbind krb5-config krb5-locales krb5-user.

It would be great if this particular appliance could get be updated such that it will keep working through the recent security updates to Debian's Samaba packages, e.g., rebase it on Samba 4.2.10-Debian.

Charles.
