New TurnKey Drupal6 version (2009.02-hardy)

Release focus: security, usability, bugfixes and updates

Changes:

  • added SSL support
  • clean urls supported out of the box (SEO)
  • added many popular drupal6 modules:
    • fckeditor: enables FCKeditor (a WYSIWYG editor) instead of plain text fields
    • captcha: adds image or text based CAPTCHAs to arbitrary forms
    • fivestar: simple five-star voting widget for nodes
    • pathauto: allow modules to automatically generate descriptive aliases for the content they manage (SEO)
    • xmlsitemap: Generates an XML site map which can be submitted automatically to search engines (SEO)
    • tagadelic: makes weighted tag clouds from your taxonomy terms
    • webform: enables the creation of forms and questionnaires
    • admin_menu: adds a dropdown administration menu to the top of the screen (administrators only)
    • google_analytics: adds Google Analytics javascript tracking code to all your site's pages
    • cck: Content Creation Kit - a powerful toolkit for creating custom content types
    • views: creates customized views of node lists
    • lightbox2: enables the use of lightbox2 which places images above your current page, not within. This frees you from layout constraints.
    • logintoboggan: improves Drupal's login system
    • token: provides a shared API for replacement of textual placeholders with actual data
  • mysql-related improvements
    • include PhpMyAdmin (listening on port 12322 - uses SSL)
    • set empty mysql root password in live/demo mode (for convenience)
    • support configuring mysql root password during installation
  • bind postfix MTA to localhost (security)
  • added webmin postfix module (convenience)
  • prevent drupal6 upgrades from recreating apache config symlink (bugfix)
  • symlink /etc/drupal6 -> /etc/drupal/6 (workaround for silly packaging)

Notes

  • drupal6 includes a built-in update status module.
    • when enabled could produce confusing/annoying version notifications.
    • this is due to drupal6 being installed and updated via the apt package manager, instead of manually from the upstream tarball.
    • it is recommended to subscribe to drupal security announcements (email and rss are provided).
  • this release includes all updates included in the 2008.10.17-hardy-x86 releases, such as the new configuration console, and web management interface.
