This was the setup I was working on.  Ideally it would come in a few flavors.

Flat file-no DB needed for static only websites.  Addable later.

The base components:

     a)  jeos php nginx   b)  jeos php hiawatha  c)  lamp is not an option-too big-complex

The application layer:   Any small fast CMS-easy instructions to add after install. Basically just drop the expanded .gz files into /var/http/public and off one goes to build. Very low hardware required...say P4-512ram-10GB hdd. Some would get it to work on less I'm sure.

Great little server for old spare PC's.  Would bring in that whole user segment. :)

     a)  Banshee           b)  any php-based framework   c)  Pluck

Simple, very fast, and tested secure against standard attack vectors on 1st boot. Fun?!

Although I find the current LAMP appliance runs fine for me with 512MB RAM (with faster CPU though). In fairness it only hosts some simple html with very little traffic.

As for light webserver, I have heard great things about the performance of NginX but have had huge headaches trying to configure it myself. All my attempts to date have ended in frustration and giving up. LigHTTPd is a better lightweight option IMO although it's certainly not as versatile as Apache.

If you wish to create any appliance prototypes, then I would suggest creating a TKLPatch for them. I'm not sure whether the core devs would consider releasing an official appliance or not, but at least other users can try it out. If you can do that then I would certainly consider creating an ISO from your patch and uploading it to the TKL Community SourceForge project.

Ok and I read your steps in the other post.    I imagine someone out there in webland getting it to be easier soon that knows php.ini, my.ini, php-fpm(fastcgi) and the server nginx/hiawatha.conf files.  Some folks know this stuff by heart I'm sure.  Linode and howtoforge have pretty close configs right now.

Hey Guys.  Haven't been here in a while and I see some nice new appliances.  Cool.

I especially like the nginx and lighttpd ones.  However I can't say enough good things about hiawatha web server.  It is fast and secure out of the box pretty much.   I know it's an obscure web server but it has it's advantages over the above two.   Anyhow....nice work on the additions.  Thanks.
