Hello Support,

Exposing my ignorance here, but would it make sense to create a bicoin mining appliance based on TKL? Is it possible or even meaningful to do this? It would be so cool if you could set up a bitcoin mining node in seconds just as we do with all the other TKL appliances.

Please advice.

Hi Peo. Whether or not it makes sense depends on how useful potential users would find it. I haven't looked into the details myself so I'm not sure how much value a TurnKey mining app would add. In any case I'd love to help anyone that thinks it would be useful enough to give it a go.

Thank you for your reply Liraz. I guess the value would be that of easy access and simplicity being the hallmark of TKL. Just boot up your mine... It would never be a mine on the industrial scale like the crazy swedes at https://www.kncminer.com/ but if you have 100.000.000 virtualized TKL mines in parallell?

Hi pm. CPU mining just isn't economical which means the Bitcoin you generate aren't even close to the value of the electricity it would take to power the computation. So this would only make sense if you hooked it up to a dedicated ASIC miner like those crazy swedes are making. I'm not sure even that is economical anymore...

Here I'll contradict myself. You can mine Bitcoin profitably with CPUs.

You just need a time machine that can take you back to circa 2009-2010, when early versions of bitcoin-qt actually had a button that you could press to mine a bitcoin on the spot. And it usually worked!

Those were the days. You could trade in a pizza for 10000 BTC, which is a few million by todays exchange rate:

Since my request 2014 (omg!) many things have happened in Bitcoin, amazing things. Yet we are early (2021) in the developlent and evolution of the original internet money. From a time standpoint people often name the current age of BTC as the "modem days" when comparing it to the development of the Internet, meaning the really big events are still to happen with the btc: it is said to be early still and not to late to get involved in the movement.

So, as was so rightfully expressed by Liraz back in 2014 in this thread, is even more true today: BTC mining is currently only done using ASIC chips.

There is one place though where the TKL heritage could play a pleasant role in all of this and that is the full (btc and lighning network) -node. What could perhaps make sense would be to create a TKL package/version of for instance the MyNode offered as a TKL package, ready to unwrap and deploy the TKL way, offered on the range of media types etc. That would have been nice.

Monero (XMR) can be mined on ordinary CPUs, and it's possible to run a p2pool node on ~4GB RAM and ~80GB SSD as of this writing, enabling mining without using a pool and with no minimum payout... just FYI.
