Updating MYSQL server to higher version (not in repo's)

oliver.corre's picture

Running TKL based on Ubuntu server 8.04. If I want to update the MYSQL to a higher version (web appliance requirement) that isn't in the repo's, how do I that?

With great pain!

The best bet would probably be to migrate to TKL v11.x but if that's not an option then there are a few different ways to go. Personally I'd look for a PPA that contains the right version (compiled for Ubuntu 8.04/Hardy) but you will not be able to rely on it providing security updates.

The only really reliable way to do it is build from source but you will need to rebuild everytime there is a security update. Google and/or Ubuntu forums may give you some other ideas?
