I downloaded and installed VMware Player and the Turnkey LAPP iso, and have "host-only" networking set in VMware. This is all on Windows XP. In XP, I can ping the IP address set for the VMnet1 adapter, but in the web browser on the same XP box, http://<ip-addr> (again using the IP address for VMnet1) does nothing. Could someone assist me a little? Thanks!

It is working now using the IP address on the LAPP server, not the IP address on the NIC adapter in XP. Which makes sense, but that did not work before either. Anyway, everything looks good to go now.
