Vertical turbine pumps are specialized centrifugal pumps designed to move water from a well or lake that is rooted underground. Also known a deep well turbine pump or a lineshaft turbine pump, the vertical turbine pump is one of two main types of turbine pumps.

Vertical turbine pumps have the motor located above ground, connected through a long vertical shaft to impellers at the base of the pump. They are essentially used wherever a submersible pump is not possible.

The pumps are customarily driven by an AC electric induction motor or by a diesel engine via a right angle drive. The pump end consists of at least one rotating impeller that is fastened to a shaft and conducts the well water into a diffuser casing termed a bowl.
