Incubating Plastic Petri Dishes At Home For use at home, put every petri dish in a bag that has a zip lock to stop the drying process. Twist and turn the plates in all directions and keep them in a warm place. Most microorganisms incubate at 320 F and 900 F. You can expect to see bacterial growth in the next 2 to three days. Remember not to incubate bacteria for longer durations as this will cause the entire population to die. Leaving the bacteria in the same place for longer periods will cause the cells to take up all the nutrients and give out harmful metabolites.
