Short Bio

Forgotten Shores is really just a collection of new levels, though it does thread along a short narrative centered around Ida and the friendly Totem. Even after dozens of runs you’ll find new ways to combine spell cards and make the monsters suffer. With their shiny cars and blistering sense of speed, nothing shows off new graphics tech like a racing game. It's not gory, though blood and trauma play key roles. Google’s willingness to license Android to more partners also means most gaming-focused mobile hardware targets Android. Even when you can’t go out into the real world, Pokemon Go lets you join the fun (https://www.un-leadership-learn.org/homescapes). But for distant pals, Polytopia will leave you cold. Hitting your club with another club?

The levels themselves are retro and mostly monochrome, save for the occasional red splashes. The Rink is set the future with three stages at launch in New York, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. The futuristic theme is reflected by the stylized athletes and backdrops. I especially liked that the game's controls were designed with one-handed mobile play in mind, which was a problem I encountered in Year Walk. While some may scoff at the price for a mobile game, it is well worth it, and even modest free additions like Ida's Dream are made with obvious care. When you die, you die for good, but you can use that experience to better prepare for the next run. The colorful voxel look is iconic, and chickens are just inherently funny. But the real appeal is how well the three different aesthetics—music, visuals, and game design—blend.

The first is one I wouldn't have thought of on my own: technological limitations. This comes along with some new twists (literally) on the original's gameplay, bringing the mind-bending perspective shifts to a whole new level: https://www.un-leadership-learn.org/mlb-9-innings-20. And though the Forgotten Shores and Ida's Dream expansions are extremely entertaining, they don't make any attempt to amend the shortcomings of the story. It's a simple system reminiscent of Tinder, and, like Tinder, usually has horrible, unforeseeable consequences. Terraria is like a 2D Minecraft. Like I mentioned, everything is destructible.

If you have ever played Player Unknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), then Fortnite's battle royale concept should be familiar. Each map is a randomly generated 256 tiles, which keeps the game challenging and can force you into new strategies. Mini Metro maps are based on major real-world cities and includes multiple game modes for a variety of gaming experiences. The original version of that game still deserves your attention.
