Biography Saharasri Subrata Roy, the Chairman of Sahara Pariwar, was born on June 10, 1948. He spent his childhood at Araria, Bihar. A bright boy, Roy didn’t let his middle class background deter him from pursuing his dreams. He went on to obtain a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Government Technical Institute, Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh). Subrata Roy started modestly with Rs 2,000 in 1978, from a small office in Gorakhpur.
