- Phrases to Use for Cover Letter – Part II As a follow up to my article regarding phrases to use for your cover letter, here is part deux. Making your cover letter stand out is an important part of your job search. Conveying your professionalism, abilities, communication skills, and intellect – not to mention your ability to write should be demonstrated in this important document. Is training and development your area of expertise? If it is, these phrases will be useful when writing your cover letter: A highly trained coach, I possess the skill and competency to support productive change. In close collaboration with senior leadership of a Fortune 100 company, I established a streamlined program that promoted a team approach to building business and driving lasting change. My efforts resulted in the implementation of a new executive office to oversee corporate projects and facilitated a 25% increase in business; and productivity among the members of the group increased by 20%. During my work as a coaching and development consultant, I guided a business leader in adopting the appropriate communication skills to support a culture predicated on open communication subsequent to the company’s acquisition of a smaller entity. The new organization required a new approach to business and a leader attuned to the needs of a changed environment. When writing your cover letter, you should ask for cover letter help and provide some tailored information to help the company understand that you have done research regarding their organization. These paragraphs are a good start. Once research is conducted, you can add specific company details to the following: After conducting research regarding (name of company’s) marketing practices I feel your commitment to providing a strategic personalized level of service complements my own personal and professional integrity to ensure the highest standards of client satisfaction are met and maintained. I am interested in joining a progressive company where I can leverage my effective overall communication skills in an environment that nurtures growth and increased responsibility. In evaluating your organization’s mission statement, I believe that yours is a company that will both challenge and motivate me to strive for excellence. Going for a communications position? Is writing something that will be a key part of your role? Demonstrate your writing skills with phrases like these: During my tenure with XXX, I drafted several marketing plans that were used to launch products into a new market. In addition to creating the content, I also collaborated with the graphic design group to create an appealing layout for all of the collateral materials that were given to prospective and existing clients. My role as a communications assistant allowed me to become involved in the creation of copy for advertisements, client communications, and press releases. Working with the director of the group, I contributed to the development of marketing templates that could be customized to meet the needs of the company’s clients. Once you have your letter written, you will need that all-important closing! I am often told it is hard to get started, and equally difficult to finish! So here are a couple of closing paragraphs that you can modify to finish your letter: I would welcome the opportunity to apply my multifarious skill set in an environment that supports the professional and personal development of its employees. Please feel free to contact me at (number) to arrange a mutually convenient time to speak. Thank you for your kind consideration. If your staff could benefit from the addition of an eminently qualified senior sales professional, then I suggest it could prove mutually beneficial for us to establish a dialogue. While secure in my present position, I am confidentially exploring new opportunities where I can increase my control of the sales process and make a greater contribution to overall sales results.
