Hi Team,

a quick suggestion for the future: adding a keyboard selection during initial setup.

With TK Wordpress I had to type 3 different passwords: root, wp and adminer with my french keyboard and this not so easy especially with special characters.

Yes, i can install console-setup and console-data later but i need to relaunch turnkey-init...

Not so easy as a "turnkey" solution...

Anyway, TK is great distro with great support.

All my best....

Philippe

Thanks for your suggestion Philippe.

Yes, I can certainly see that TurnKey isn't very "turnkey" for users with a non-US international keyboard. It would be nice to make things easier for users such as yourself. We have had some thoughts about that, but because of the way our installer works, the implementation is not that easy. No promises, but when I get some spare cycles, I'll have a closer look.

As your distro is based on Debian, maybe you can take a look and inspiration from OpemMediavault distribution project. Setup is very similar to TK and includes keyboard selection as a first step...

All my best,

Phil

The option to set locale and/or keyboard is in there. Under System settings IIRC...

The question here is to set locales DURING initial setup.

With a fresh install we boot on the ISO file and just after hdd and partition setup, turnkey reboots and immediatly request to setup a root password. At this step, keyboard is in US-us with no ability to change the keyboard layout.

We know we can change locales with "system settings" but we have to deal with the wrong keyboard for the entire install including password for root, wordpress and adminer in my case....

Anyway, we switched our infrastructure of 568 servers to bitnami ..

Thanks anyway...

Philippe

Sorry to see you go, but really glad that you found something that worked for you.

FWIW, you do raise a good point, although I'm not sure where we would put it? Right at the start of the ISO installer? In which case it would only be on ISO builds?! Or at the start of the firstboot scripts? In which case, you'd still have to get through the installer with the wrong keyboard - or would that be acceptable?

Also, FWIW I know it's not ideal, but it's worth noting that the inithooks (firstboot scripts) can be easily rerun (after setting the keyboard correctly). That will allow you to (re)set the passwords for root, WordPress, Adminer, etc. Just run:

turnkey-init

Perhaps we should spell that out somewhere? Or perhaps it should be an option in Confconsole too?

FWIW, all of the passwords can be preseeded too - so you don't even need to do the firstboot scripts at all. Unfortunately, it's not so simple with the ISO build though (more designed for the other builds).

Regardless, good luck with it all. And thanks for using TurnKey while you did.
