Needed a small easy setup domain controller and found Turnkey-Linux.
Worked very good, running it as a VM on my QNAP nas. Migrated some workstations to the domain and was satisfied with the outcome and how easy it all came togheter with a pre-configured vm!
I did a snapshot of the VM after this and forgot about it.
A week later I was doing some testing in my network and needed a machine with nmap installed. So i logged on to the turnkey domain controller and without hesitating ran 'apt install nmap'.
You have a wonderfull and simple to arrangement linux worker assortment.
I have just been taking a shot at this for a couple of days, yet this is soo a lot simpler then when last I attempted (not, turnkey, some other distro, 2 years prior).
Much obliged to you soooo much for every one of your endeavors.
I have read a couple of threads where the domain controller appliance cannot be used as a domain controller in Server 2019 network due to the outdated Samba configuration. Which is understandable.
However can someone clarify if the file server appliance can be joined to a Windows domain and act as a simple file server and it would be transparent to users. For example you can map a network drive in Windows client and set up permissions.
The idea is to use Turnkey Domain Controller first as backup of my domain, if it will work fine i shut down all Windows and use only linux.
But... i have a problem right on start, on First boot configuration.
The name of my domain have number. and i cannot join Turnkey Domain Controller to it. Error message is " All realm segment characters must be alphanumeric "
