Until I found TKL I used to make my own "speciality" images with T2 linux.
Basically it only installs the packages you require and results in an extremely lean system.
If you have a look at askozia.com (a free PBX solution) they have some amazing functionality in a 20Mb package. I think the next version might blow out to a whopping 30Mb! They have used T2 ever since porting from FreeBSD to Linux.
Is there a reason for using Ubuntu or Debian as the base for TKL or would there be benefit in using a "distribution build kit" like T2?
In another thread it was mentioned that a syslog server would be a cool idea. I use them alot to monitor anything from routers to servers and they can be a powerful tool to keep you up to date when you manage many sites or even if you have many devices to monitor.
I am contemplating creating one from TKL LAMP stack (if I use a database) and would like to hear from anyone interested in this feature. Please add your RFF here and I will start researching!
Due to the use of a ms proxy server at my place of work I always end up having to install NTLMaps on both windows and linux boxes to authenticate with the proxy, very annoying. Strikes me NTLM authentication should be builtin with Turnkey distros, wether it is NTLMaps or your own solution. It's only a small feature but a usefull one.
Should be easy todo, Squid Proxy and Dans Guardian.
I've set this up a few times manually and it is pretty easy however it would be nice to have an appliance all ready setup etc. I used this at work(a school) for webfiltering. Just a suggestion.
This post is intended to be a discussion on how TKL and TKLBAM have benefitted me and some features I would like to see.
If this is served better in another place then please let me know, otherwise I will start by saying I am very impressed so far and look forward to continuing development.
I write software for windows and Linux that is 90% of the time a database frontend and consequently I provide onsite and offsite servers that include file servers, db servers and printing servers (so people can manage printing costs).
I downloaded the ubuntu-8.04.3-i386-turnkey-mysql-2009.10.tar.gz OpenVZ template and dropped it in /var/lib/vz/template/cache on my Proxmox 1.8 server. In the "Applicance Template" section, I see the filename is correct, but the description is listed as "-- unknown --". When I try to go create a new OpenVZ virtual machine, I can't select the Turnkey device because it isn't listed. According to this thread http://www.turnkeylinux.org/forum/general/20101208/creating-o
