Server based office suite

Forum:
I promise I had a look (well a boy look) at the forums, but saw no mention of this subject. We wondered if a server-based free office suite that could be accessed from any desktop OS using a browser would be an option for a small business to centralise storage and security of its output. Most folk have gigabit connections in-house, but sending this data off-site makes no sense.

TKL Contest Appliances

Forum:

Just curious, is there a guess when the TKL appliances from the contest will be available?  Is there anything the community could do to help?  Thanks!

Idea for new TKL Appliance

Forum:
Tags:

You guys have done such a great job and I know ya got alot on your plates, but I figured I'd just throw in an idea for a new appliance.

How about an iSCSI server (iSCSI Target) appliance.  This could either be a new appliance or build the feature into the FileServer appliance.

I found an open source project called, "LIO (linux-iscsi.org)" which looks great.  I know very little about this project, other than reading thru their wiki site.

Any thoughts???

New Appliances ideas (Memcached only, lighttpd)

Forum:

Hi congratulate for the turnkey appliances,

it's exact what I'm looking for, ubuntu based and ready for go in a virtualbox environment.

It would be fine if you publish also two new appliances to your growing pool (45+?)

I'm interested in a memcached only appliance (small overhead on the base system for getting as much memory for the cache system). It would be even finer if the memcached server state (memory usage, etc.) can be controlled remotly in the web-frontend ;)

Practicality of a Debian base?

Forum:

If one were to duplicate TurnKey-Core, or LAMP, on a Debian 6 base, how much work would it take to create 'templates' to allow tklbam-backup and restore to work with S3?

I have to admit that recreating TurnKey on Debian is turning out to be a bit more involved than I anticipated.

It will be worth the time if it will work properly with the HUB and Amazon.

The HUB and Amazon's AMI's are out of my leauge though, I would require help with those.

RFC - The appliance spotlight

Forum:
Tags:

For a while now I've been thinking how we can improve appliance documentation, or even take it one step further and create a mini-knowledge base, describing what can be achieved with appliance X, how to get started, known gotcha's, tips, tweaks as well as success stories (for inspiration).

The idea I came up with is: The appliance spotlight.

A member of the community would "run" the spotlight for its duration (1 week), and kick it off with a tutorial / success story / screencast.

During the spotlight we'd request others pitch in:

Django 1.2

Forum:

Are there any plans to release a version of Turnkey Django with python-django version 1.2?

Currently it uses 1.1.1 but there are lot's of new features in 1.2.

Alternatively is it easy to upgrade django to 1.2 on the turneky box once it's installed?

Many Thanks

Julian

Electra initative rebase - is it reasonable?

Forum:

Electra initative rebase - is it reasonable? AFAIK, TKL simply installs preconfigured application packages - if configuration management is package independent, and integrated with the package manager, TKL could be simplyfied to a repository to be added to a fresh Ubuntu server install. Am I correct, or did I misunderstand the project?

Footer: "DokuWiki Appliance - Powered by TurnKey Linux"

Forum:

I have installed several additions to my DokuWiki Appliance: MySQL, CMSimple and NolaPro Accounting being the main ones.

And though I want the "DokuWiki Appliance - Powered by TurnKey Linux" to show prominently on the pages, it sometimes appears several times on one page, and sometimes in a very awkward position.

Is there a template or stylesheet I can work on to tame this behavior somewhat?

TIA
