I recently setup turnkey backups. I noticed the backup of my server was ~480MB (~220MB zipped) considering my server uses ~2.5 GB of HD space, I can assume turnkey isn't backing up the entire server?
Also, where is the backup stored on my S3? It isnt located in any of my buckets on the S3 console.
I can hardly believe how well TKLBAM does it's incremental backups but I did a restore and sure enough everything is there. What really amazes me is how small the incremental is and how fast it is completed.
I vote for a ZeroShell type Turnkey Router. I have dozens of projects that could use a great Turnkey Rounter appliance. Lots of custom routing project possibilities.
I love the idea of what you are doing, especially the backup solution.
I'm wondering if it might make sense for you to only distribute the 'core' and make every other specialised machine a 1-click download / install. This would allow you to keep the core fresher and more updated with bug fixes and support for your packages. Imagine now if you have a problem with the core you have to re-roll all the other specialised machines.
I know there are some Amazon EC2 Instance type restrictions that come with Amazon's devpay program but I was surprised when I created my TKLHUB account and started to launch a TKL appliance and found that I could only choose between m1.small or c1.medium instance types. Both have 1.7GB ram. I was hoping to use the m1.large which has 7.5GB ram.
I am trying to build out a Debian Squeeze based core and would like to document my journey and also try to get some advice/assistance from the community.
My journey started with google where I found a live cd build system called live-build. Here is a link to the home page:
