With the newly released Twitter Lists functionality, we came up with the idea to implement something similar to the widely used planet blog aggregation, such as Ubuntu planet.
What is planet?Planet is an awesome 'river of news' feed reader. It downloads news feeds published by web sites and aggregates their content together into a single combined feed,
latest news first.
i just had the idea that in some cases it would be very handy to be able to combine appliances to have one appliace supporting multiple features like a "domain controller and zimbra appliance".
Maybe this would be possible by using a modular structure with a core and additional modules from the available appliance. So you could choose the functions you want and create your " core + domain-controller + zimbra + maybe another additional module appliance ".
This would be especially useful for smaller companies with just a small number of servers.
As you may or may not have noticed for the past few days the messages you posted to the forums did not show up in the forum list of topics. I finally tracked down to a bug in one of the Drupal modules we've been using and have managed to fixed the issue. None of your messages were lost, they just weren't being displayed. Thanks for your patience.
Just thinking out loud really... sorry for the essay...
Personally I like the idea of having a 'master server' with all the individual appliances installed as VMs (modules) that interact with one another and fulfill all the functions/roles I want from my server, but each still be (somewhat) independant of the others. That's why I love Proxmox so much. Not to mention OpenVZ performance being nothing short of incredible! (No noticable difference from bare metal, other than from full system reboot).
Just having a bit more of a look through the new appliance line-up and I think I notice a very minor oversight: On the front page you state TKL is based on Ubuntu 8.04.3, but on the Core page (http://www.turnkeylinux.org/core) it says its based on 8.04.2.
Today I set up a Wave Federation server in a VirtualBox instance of Turnkey base. I followed two sets of instructions which were spot-on except for two times that I got lost and confused.
