First of all, congratulations! It sounds to be a very interesting project.
"After booting the machine from the ISO the software appliance can either run live in non-persistent demo mode [...]": why not persistent, too? You enhanced casper, but I don't understand why you removed its persistent feature.
I am setting up a hosted dedicated server which uses virtual box to virtualise etc. One thing I am fairly short of is memory and I only have 512 mb to play with. I would be interested in peoples experience on how much much RAM they assign to their virtualised turnkey appliances...
Alon just emailed me about the community awards contest. Help spread the word by nominating TurnKey Linux for best new open source project. For extra credit, get your friends to vote too!
Thank you for these great appliances. I have learned a lot from using them.
I was wondering if there was any chance of getting virtualmin and usermin included in the LAMP appliance?
The problem is that when using the LAMP appliance, you can't get Virtualmin running because the suexec directory is hardcoded into the build and for Virtualmin to run, it requires a change.
I came across Turnkey about a week ago, and love what it gives me as an administrator.
For some time now I have been toying with the idea of selling a low-cost physical/virtual appliance based on Ubuntu + a specific app I am a big fan of, but after playing around with Turnkey, I am wondering about basing it on Turnkey instead of 'real' Ubuntu but don't want to tread on any toes if it's not allowed/frowned upon.
I want to start making my own appliance where do i start?
things to know~ i'm not new to linux been using it for about 2 years or so. I wanna learn how to build a appliance like add a logo(when installing) ect ect ..just to learn something new :) anyways thanks for this great product :) Take care!
How does Turnkey plan on handling application upgrades to accomodate new versions of a particular application (security fixes/ enhancements) hosted on the Turnkey Core (ex: PostreSQL 8.3.5 to 8.3.7)? Does a new appliance get released with the new version and then users backup and import their data into the new appliance or will there be another process?
it would be great if there was a mail server appliance that smaller organisations (which don't want to pay for or deal with the complexities of M$Exchange) could get. We'd be happy to pay something reasonable for one if we knew that set up and maintenance were reasonably simple ..
