Amazon reserved instances don't seem cheap.

Forum:

I've been on AWS micro instance plan for a couple of months, and bought a reserved instance at $54 yearly which is boasts economcial of 61% utilization. I don't find it so.

A micro instance plan from the handy calculator is $14.64

http://calculator.s3.amazonaws.com/calc5.html

My monthly charge is around $7.55.  With the reserved instance, the total cost is around $12. So I save about $2.5, hardly 61%.

I see better deals like this for $10 monthly which offers double RAM and space.

Same functionality as shared hosting

Forum:

Few questions:

1- If I wish to have the same functionality as a Hostgator shared hosting excluding cpanel, that is

(Linux + Apache + MySQL + phpmyadmin + mail server + multiple domains) + wordpress blogs

Would an Amazon micro stance be enough? Traffic would not be heavy.

2- Would an Amazon EC2 micro stance be faster than hostgartor? I am experiencing high Time to First Byte. Bandwidth is ok though.

3- What if I exclude the mail server, would an Amazon EC2 micro stance be enough and faster than hostgartor?

Willing to Pay for Working Observium+Icinga TKL Appliance

Forum:

To whom this may concern,

I R Suck at Linux

I'd love to get a Turnkey Linux Appliance with Observium and Icinga installed and working, but after kind of working at it for the better part of the work day, and after work, I'm surrendering to my lack of knowledge in the Linux area.

Samba as AD LDAP TURNKEY

Forum:

Hello All,

I have created a virtual machine that is an Active Directory controller PDC where Windows Machines can join the network and reset passwords and everything as well as manage everything from Microsoft RSAT tools.

I am trying to find documentation to have this become a TurnKey CD. It is currently running on Ubuntu Server 12.0.4.

Any help?  This took a while to get working perfectly. Many nights of drinking and cursing.

Not clear on your 64bit support and Zimbra

Forum:

I apologize if this has been answered before. I could not really tell from website if all apps are now 64bit or not? And is Zimbra updated to 64bit and newer releases?

thanks

tklbam-restore Clone Option

Forum:

Is it possible to add a "--clone" option to the tklbam-restore script?  Basically, this will do everything that the restore normally does minus linking the machine to that specific backup image so that you can then set up the new machine to backup to its own image.

Ex: tklbam-restore --clone [backup-id]

Server Web Stack

Forum:

Hi all

I have been playing with the turnkey WordPress - Blog Publishing Platform and its excellent to.

Would like to know how much the cost would be for a custom build turnkey appliance to do reverse web proxy and email pass-though to individual vm's running group-office from http://wiki4.group-office.com/wiki/Main_Page . I can get a proxy gong with squid but don't know anything about email server configuration and a pass-though is way beyond my knowledge.
