Phone vs email vs text chats on IM (instant messaging)

Phone vs e-mail

Alon and I usually shy away from handling things over the phone because it requires coordination (especially when you have different time zones), breaks up our work-flow, and isn't self documenting.

In fact, when I'm working I usually put my phone on silent and as far from reach as possible because nothing breaks up my concentration like a phone call. E-mail I can send and reply to in my own sweet time. A phone demands your attention this very instance. Drop everything and talk to me right now!

Reflections on the correlation between intelligence and success

Having recently reread Malcolm Gladwell's excellent book: Outliers - the story of success, I've been thinking about the correlation between high IQ and success in life. I think I may have come up with a nice way to clarify Malcolm Gladwell's conclusions. Malcolm writes that to succeed in a given field you need to pass a certain threshold of intelligence, but that having more intelligence than the required threshold will not increase your chances of success.

The TurnKey blog: where do we go from here?

When we started out a few years ago the scope of posts was very limited. Only news announcements, once every few months. The idea was to keep the signal to noise ratio down. But then a couple of years later we added tags to the blog and that changed everything because it meant we could offer a just-the-news feed to those who wanted it while opening up the blog to a broader range of subjects. Gradually the scope of the blog expanded until it included pretty much anything interesting we came across in our TurnKey adventures.
